Georgia sheriff’s deputy saves choking baby

BIBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia sheriff’s deputy is being praised for his quick thinking after he saved a baby who was choking.

According to WMAZ-TV, the incident occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on Ponce de Leon Circle in Bibb County. Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Reginald Washington responded to a report of an unresponsive baby and arrived to find 5-week-old Stoni Edwards “not breathing” and “turning red in the face,” the department wrote in a Facebook post.

Realizing that something was blocking the child’s airway, Washington sprang into action, “turning the baby over and giving several palm blows to the infant’s back,” the post read.

Moments later, the baby started to breathe, the Sheriff’s Office said, adding that the child may have been “choking on a formula mix.”

Emergency crews took the baby to a nearby hospital, and the child was later discharged, WMAZ reported.
