Foster was arrested by Reform, Alabama police for driving up to 90 mph and leading officers on a chase on a state highway, The Associated Press reported. Officers said they used a “spike strip” to stop his car, but he crashed into a business. While being handcuffed, court records show Foster fought a deputy and a correctional officer.

Though Foster’s family had planned to help him bond out of jail, NOLA.com reported they were unable to because Foster had allegedly tried to steal a fellow jail detainee’s socks and beat him. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office re-booked Foster on three felony counts of assault and one count of third-degree robbery for the incident, NOLA.com reported.

Family members said they were not able to see the defensive end after he was arrested Friday until he died Monday, The Washington Post reported.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said it was investigating Foster’s death at the request of the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and no cause of death has been released, ESPN reported.

Glenn Foster Jr. was an undrafted free agent who was signed by the New Orleans Saints in 2013 and played for two seasons, WLTV reported.
