HOUSTON — It must have been animal day on Houston’s highways Wednesday.

Hours before an alligator was caught napping on a Houston bridge, Harris County deputies had to corral a cow that wandered onto the East Freeway, KTRK reported.

Houston Transtar cameras showed the bovine jogging on Interstate 10 at around 8 a.m. CDT, KRPC reported. A law enforcement vehicle was able to coax the cow up a ramp from I-10 to Beltway 8, the television station reported.

Call it the Texas version of the Running of the Bulls, the event in northern Spain that was canceled for the second consecutive year due to COVID-19. But this time, there was only one animal involved.

About 30 minutes later, the cow was off the freeway and resting in a nearby cemetery, KHOU reported. The sheriff’s office brought in a livestock team, and the cow was loaded onto a cattle trailer and driven away, the television station reported.

The cow was not injured, KTRK reported. An accident that occurred on the freeway was unrelated to the animal, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.

“Great work by our Livestock Team. Cow was rescued, no harm,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a tweet. “Owner was on scene. All lanes open.”
