Counterfeit designer clothes worth over $2M recovered in Virginia

NORFOLK, Va. — Counterfeit clothing worth over $2 million was recovered in Virginia last month.

WAVY says U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Norfolk discovered designer dresses and shawls attempted to go through that had trademark violations. The shipment that these garments were a part of was heading to Ohio from the port.

About 1,120 garments violated the Intellectual Property Rights of designer brands including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Apple trademarks. According to WAVY, if they were real, the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices would be about $2.37 million.

WTKR reports that the shipment came through the port in April and the CBP seized them all. According to CBP data that WTKR obtained, items such as footwear, apparel, handbags, and wallets are among some of the items that are at higher risk of being counterfeited.
