Cheetos ‘residue’ helps police nab Oklahoma burglary suspect

TULSA, Okla. — A Tulsa woman is facing first-degree burglary charges after her snack of choice became key forensic evidence.

According to the Tulsa Police Department, a female victim with two small children called at around 8 p.m. Friday to report another woman breaking in through a window.

Responding officers determined that the suspect, identified in atypical fashion later as Sharon Carr, had pried the screen off the window to gain entry to the home but left without taking anything or harming anyone, KOKI reported.

Investigators also found an abandoned bag of Cheetos and a water bottle on the floor near the open window and ultimately linked Carr to the break-in by the distinctive orange residue in her teeth left behind by the snack, the TV station reported.

The victim also identified Carr as the home intruder, and Tulsa police shared the incident on Facebook, offering a gentle word of caution:

“A good reminder that Cheeto dust can be pretty hard to get rid of,” the post read.
