‘Can you spot the fake?’: NY driver tries to dupe police with hand-drawn inspection sticker

The department on Wednesday posted a side-by-side comparison of an authentic vehicle inspection sticker and the one provided by the motorist in question.

“Can you spot the fake?” the post asked. “We thought so.”

According to WTEN, state law requires all New Yorkers to have their vehicles inspected at least once every 12 months.

“Take a moment and check to make sure your vehicles are properly inspected. A properly maintained vehicle is safer for everyone on the road, they perform better, and yearly inspections are required by law,” the department wrote.

According to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, inspection stickers can be easily reattached with clear tape or other adhesives, and a new sticker can be requested online, WTEN reported.
