HUMBLE, Texas — Blood, teeth and items in unexpected places were found in a house after a teenager and his mother were reported missing in Humble, Texas, according to court records.
According to KPRC, the Nebraska State Patrol found Michelle Roenz’s body inside a car trunk Friday night and were able to identify her. She, 49, was reported missing with her son, Tyler Roenz, 17, on Thursday.
Manfred Roenz, Michelle’s husband, told officers that when he got home on Thursday, he found his black Mazda missing, according to court records obtained by the Houston Chronicle. He said he found blood and a human tooth in the garage. A blood trail led to the master bedroom, where Manfred said he found more teeth and a pool of blood.
According to KTRK, investigators saw signs of apparent foul play inside the house.
According to the court records obtained by the Houston Chronicle, Manfred also found his wife’s cell phone and her purse inside the master bedroom, which was notable because she never kept those things there.
Tyler was only allowed to drive his father’s car to and from school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, according to court records obtained by the Houston Chronicle. Manfred stated that the family used a safety app to track the locations of family members in case of an emergency, but he told police that it appeared his son had deleted the app and turned off his phone so he couldn’t be tracked.
According to KTRK, surveillance video allegedly showed the Mazda leaving the house just before 12 p.m. Charges made on Michelle’s credit cards pinged in four different areas: Humble, Texas; Richardson, Texas; Atoka, Oklahoma; and Chetopa, Kansas. Court records obtained by KTRK showed that the license plate pinged in Dallas, Texas.
Investigators issued a CLEAR alert for Michelle and Tyler after speaking with Manfred, according to KTRK. This is when NSP located the Mazda about two and a half hours west of Omaha, Nebraska.
NSP told KPRC that Tyler led officers on a high-speed chase before crashing the car and ending the pursuit.
According to KTRK, the chase reached a speed of 110 mph prior to the crash. The Mazda allegedly tried to slow down but hit the back of a semi-truck, left the roadway and ended up in a ditch, hitting a tree.
NSP told KPRC that Tyler was taken to the hospital for injuries he sustained as a result of the crash. Harris County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook said Tyler is in serious condition.
Tyler has so far been charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, according to the Houston Chronicle. More charges could be expected, according to People Magazine.
According to the court records obtained by the Houston Chronicle, Tyler will be extradited from Nebraska back to Harris County, Texas, once he is released from the hospital.
HCSO, according to KTRK, said early reports showed that Michelle died from strangulation and blunt force trauma.
The investigation is ongoing, and no motive has been released.
