According to KATV and KLRT, the incident occurred Tuesday at a Conway home. Mother Courtney Kelly told KLRT that her 17-month-old son, Nathan, found some of her medication in a drawer, put the pills into his mouth and began choking.

Kelly quickly called 911, and Conway police Officer Michael Bruno arrived at her home moments later, KLRT reported.

“When Officer Bruno got to the scene, the mom was outside in the yard holding the baby and screaming for help,” Conway police wrote in a Facebook post Wednesday. “Officer Bruno grabbed the little Nathan and checked to see if his airways were blocked. He then turned the baby over and performed the Heimlich maneuver until Nathan started breathing normally again. Officer Bruno held the baby until paramedics got to the scene and took over care.”

The toddler “did not have to be taken to the hospital” and is “resting comfortably” at home, the post added.
