Alleged Capitol rioter arrested after bragging about role in insurrection on Bumble match

A man from New York has been arrested and charged for taking part in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Robert Chapman was taken into custody by FBI agents after a potential date reported him after they matched on the dating app Bumble, WNBC reported.

The match told authorities that Chapman admitted to her during a conversation on Jan. 13 that “I did storm the Capitol had made it all the way to Statuary Hall,” court documents stated, according to The Washington Post.

He also allegedly told his potential match that he spoke to the media after the riot.

The person provided screen grabs of the alleged conversation to the authorities.

The person told Chapman that they were not a match, then contacted the police, the Post reported.

FBI officials said they have images from police body cameras of a man who appears to be Chapman inside Statuary Hall.

Officials said he also wrote about his participation on Facebook, in photos that show him posing next to a statue and another in the Rotunda.

Chapman has been released on his own recognizance, WNBC reported.

Apps like Bumble, Tinder and Match banned users who showed images of the riots, the Post reported. Some armchair detectives sought out people on the apps who claimed they were also part of the Jan. 6 incidents and gave the information to the FBI.
