Alabama man accused of rape, home invasion 3 months after getting out of prison

An Alabama man accused of a home invasion and sexual assault Thursday had been released from prison nearly three months ago after serving nearly seven years for numerous robbery and sexual abuse convictions, authorities said.

Dai Qwane Rickey Burgin-Goodson, 26, was charged with first-degree rape, first-degree burglary and first-degree assault, according to Jefferson County arrest records. He also has three new charges for probation revocation.

Burgin-Goodson was shot by Jefferson County deputies after allegedly forcing his way into a woman’s home around 4:30 a.m. near Bessemer, AL.com reported.

Sgt. Joni Money said the Burgin-Goodson assaulted the woman, who was able to call 911. When deputies arrived, they were able to rescue the woman. Burgin-Goodson appeared in the doorway moments later and pointed a rifle at a deputy, AL.com reported.

Deputies returned fire but Burgin-Goodson, who was wounded, managed to escape. He was picked up by authorities later Thursday, according to AL.com.

In 2013, Burgin-Goodson, then known as Rickey Daiquan Burgin, was charged in connection with as many as 12 different home invasions and sexual attacks, the website reported. He was arrested in October 2013 and eventually pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary, three counts of robbery, three counts of sexual abuse and one count of sodomy, AL.com reported.

Burgin-Goodson was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with five to serve, AL.com reported. He was released from prison on May 4, according to an Alabama Department of Corrections spokeswoman.

Burgin-Goodson was taken to an area hospital after the gunfire exchange with deputies, AL.com reported. He was later booked into the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
