1 shot, killed at Michigan gas station

EASTPOINTE, Mich. — UPDATE: Law enforcement officials in Michigan said Wednesday that the shooting that occurred Tuesday was not related to a face mask dispute as previously reported.

This is an ongoing investigation and details are still developing. We believe we know why the shooting occurred and was most certainly NOT related to wearing or not wearing a face mask.The victim was a 21 year old male from Warren. We have a 25 year old male and a 30 year old male, both from Roseville, in custody. We are working with the Macomb County Prosecutor to determine appropriate charges. Thank you to Roseville and Warren PD for their assistance with this incident. This is all the information we can release at this time as we do not want to jeopardize the case. We will release more information when it is appropriate to do so.

Original report: A man was shot and killed Tuesday night at a Michigan gas station, witnesses said.

According to the Macomb Daily, the deadly shooting occurred about 9 p.m. at a Speedway on 10 Mile Road in Eastpointe. Friends of a gas station employee said a young man was involved in a dispute about face masks inside the store, the newspaper reported. Gunfire ensued, and police arrived to find the man dead by a gas pump, authorities said.

In a Tuesday night Facebook post, Eastpointe police said officers had arrested two people in connection with the incident. The department did not release the suspects’ names.

“We are still investigating,” the post read. “We do not believe there is any threat to the public. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends.”
