    Updated:

Thanksgiving is still more than a month away but stores are already deep in the planning of what they will be offering this holiday season.

Some businesses, however, are standing firm on making sure employees can spend the holidays with family by hanging up a closed sign on Thanksgiving Day.

TheBlackFriday.com has A.C. Moore, American Girl, Burlington and Neiman Marcus among its list of stores that will be dark on Thanksgiving.

Some Mattress Firm locations will be open, while others will remain closed, company officials told Cox Media Group's National Content Desk.

Other stores have not announced that they will be closed but have done so in the past. Those locations include, according to RetailMeNot and BestBlackFriday.com:

    • Barnes & Noble
    • Bed Bath & Beyond
    • Cost Plus World Market
    • Dillard's
    • Nordstrom
    • Sprint
    • T-Mobile
    • AT&T
    • Sur La Table
    • Staples
    • Office Depot/Office Max

However, some stores have already said they will be welcoming shoppers looking for bargains instead of binging on turkey. RetailMeNot and BestBlackFriday.com both report the list includes:

    • Best Buy
    • CVS
    • Meijer
    • Walgreens

And there is a list of stores that both RetailMeNot and BestBlackFriday expect to be open since they've been open on Thanksgiving before. That list includes:

    • Bass Pro Shop
    • Big Lots
    • Gamestop
    • JC Penney
    • Kohl's
    • Macy's
    • Old Navy
    • Sears
    • Target
    • Walmart

Additional stores that will be open, according to KCAL, include DWS, with some locations opening at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

As for those last-minute items you just have to have for the Thanksgiving dinner, a few grocery stores will be open. Delish reported the following stores will be open for customers:

    • Acme
    • Albertsons
    • Cub Foods
    • Fairway Market
    • Food Lion
    • The Fresh Market
    • Hannaford
    • Harris Teeter
    • HEB
    • Hy-Vee
    • Kroger
    • Ralphs
    • Safeway
    • Shaws
    • Shoprite
    • Sprouts Farmers Market
    • Stop & Shop
    • Wegmans (except for Massachusetts locations)
    • Whole Foods
    • Winn-Dixie

But if you have the following stores in your area, you may be out of luck since Delish reports they will be closed on Thanksgiving.

    • Aldi
    • Giant Eagle
    • Publix
    • Save Mart
    • Trader Joe's

BestBlackFriday.com surveyed 1,000 shoppers asking if stores should be open on Thanksgiving Day. An overwhelming majority -- 72% of those polled -- said stores should be closed. The remainder of those asked said that stores should be open, but 14% said they won't be shopping, while the other 14% said they'd be hitting up the sales.

And while locations listed here as either closed or open on the Thanksgiving Day holiday, it is best to check with your local locations to confirm.
