Children save life of stepdad having heart attack

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. — Two children's quick actions potentially saved the life of their stepfather.

On Saturday, WPBF reported Terry Poole collapsed in the living room of the family's River Beach, Florida, home. Family members said he had an apparent heart attack. Isaiah Walker, 12, said he performed CPR while his little brother, Corey Walker, 11, called 911.

Isaiah said he remembered learning how to perform CPR while taking swimming lessons, and Corey said the dispatcher also guided him through the process, the news station reported. He passed on the information to his big brother as their younger siblings, 8-year-old Lyric Walker and 7-year-old Cash Walker, looked on.

The children's mother, Shonovia Walker, told WPBF she rushed home when she got word of Poole's heart attack.

"When I got to my door, they had Terry on the floor, trying to revive him," Shonovia Walker told WPBF. "They had my (younger) kids in the back room, trying to keep them away from what was going on."

Shonovia Walker said Poole was rushed to a hospital. Staff there said her children's actions saved her husband's life, she told WPBF.

"(They told me), 'Because of your son, your children, they saved him,'" Shonovia Walker said. "'When he got there, he could have already been dead. Your son is a hero.'"
