Police believe alleged rapist behind other attacks

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga.,None — A Decatur man may be behind as many as five rapes. DeKalb County Police arrested Garry Mincey, 35, on Nov. 30.

Currently, Mincey is charged in connect to one rape, but investigators are looking into the possibility he has ties to others.

Police said on Nov. 29 Mincey followed a woman in her 20s from the Publix grocery store on Flakes Mill Road.

Investigators allege Mincey snuck into the woman's home while she was unloading groceries and raped and robbed her.

The rapist stole the victim's cellphone, laptop, camera, printer, watch, ring and a GPS.

Police arrested Mincey after spotting him in an SUV near Flakes Mill Road that matched the description of the getaway car used by the rapist.

On Friday, Channel 2's Erica Byfield went to Mincey's home.

She found out he lives two minutes away from the Publix on Flakes Mill Road.

Byfield knocked on the door, but no one answered.

One of Mincey's neighbors told Byfield she was shocked by his arrest.

"I turned to the news and I saw his face, and I was like wow, very surprised very shocked," the neighbor asked to remain anonymous.

DeKalb County Police aren't releasing many details about the other four rapes.

A spokesperson did tell Channel Two Action News they happened in October and November and all of the victims were followed home.

Mincey is in the DeKalb County Jail.

He is facing four charges from Tuesday's incident: rape, armed robbery, burglary and false imprisonment.

Investigators say other charges could be forthcoming.
