Party bus driver arrested for DUI

ATLANTA — Police arrested a party bus driver for DUI after a crash involving a utility pole and another car.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Juniper Street and North Avenue. Police say the bus hit the utility pole causing it to fall on top of a parked car.

Police say the driver of the bus may have been involved in several hit and run crashes throughout the night Saturday. The bus had also been reported stolen.

The owner of the party bus told Channel 2 Action News he got a call from customers Saturday night saying the bus never showed up to pick them up.

“He showed up to pick them up from his location, but he didn't show up to pick them up from the bar he dropped them off at,” said Trey Williams, owner of Atlanta Party Bus.

Williams said after he didn’t hear from his driver for several hours, he called police and reported the bus stolen.

“He hadn't been communicating with me for the past two to three hours and his phone’s been going straight to voicemail so I haven’t had any communication with him,” said Williams.

Williams identified the arrested driver as his employee. He tried to speak with him at the accident scene, but police said he couldn’t.  Williams said he has never had any problems with the driver.

“He's done good. He's a good guy. I haven’t had any problems with him in the past at all. Just surprisingly, this happened tonight,” said Williams.

Williams just happened to be passing by on his way home when he came across the crash involving his bus.

The driver was taken to the hospital to be checked out. He's expected to be OK. WIliams says he's just glad no one was seriously injured.

“Good thing is that he's OK. Everything else, God will work it out,” said Williams.
