Oktoberfest celebration includes brat eating competition

ATLANTA — Munich, Germany hosts Oktoberfest every year. It's a massive fair that draws millions, all to celebrate beer.

Closer to home, at Der Biergarten in downtown Atlanta, the German restaurant has its own celebration, complete with plenty of beer, and on Saturday, plenty of bratwursts, too.

Der Biergarten's Oktoberfest celebration this year included its first-ever brat-eating competition. Eaters were given 10 minutes to eat as many brats, buns and sauerkraut as possible.

Competitive eater and Atlantan Grace Lee served as co-host and judge of the event. She's participated in numerous eating competitions in the past, including the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island.

While Lee wasn't participating in the eating event, another competitive eater was. Dale Boone, who has eaten 100 oysters in two minutes, 5 pounds of baked beans in a minute and a half and 44 donuts in 10 minutes, was one of six people participating.

Who won? How much did they eat? Watch the video above to find out.

Oktoberfest celebrations conclude this weekend at Der Biergarten. Saturday's activities include the Oktoberfest Olympics with a beer belly contest and a beer stein holding event. The person who can hold the stein straight out from their body the longest wins.
