New Year's noisemaker: Dallas man enjoys $150K lottery win

ATLANTA — One lucky Dallas man is excited over his heaping handful of Georgia Lottery winnings while celebrating the new year. Alton Gamble, 59, played the instant game Giant Jumbo Bucks, winning a $150,000 top prize.

Gamble claimed his prize Jan. 3 at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Dalton.

RaceTrac #0610, 4597 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway in Hiram, sold the winning ticket, and Gamble scratched the ticket in his car.

“I was shocked and in disbelief, actually,” he said.

With his wife Patricia, Gamble has no immediate plans for his winnings.

“We may do a little work on the house,” he shared.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
