Publix warns about fake coupon on social media

Fake Publix coupon

ATLANTA — Like the old adage goes, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

That's exactly the message Publix is trying to tell its customers after a fake coupon began making the rounds on social media.

The Florida-based grocery store tweeted out the image of the "coupon" with a big red cross through it.

The fraudulent coupon offered a free $150 voucher celebrating its 150th anniversary.

Along with the coupon being fake, the supermarket has only been around of about 85 years.

"This is not supported by us and is not valid at any of our stores. We recommend not participating in this or similar promotions or providing your personal information. Thank you for your patience as we investigate this situation," the store said in a statement.
