• How did 7 lottery players win more than 100 times?

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Some people are just luckier than others.

And this holds true for seven Ohio residents who have reportedly won the state lottery more than 100 times in the last three years.

According to a WEWS-TV analysis of the Ohio lottery database, each of the seven residents won more than $100,000.

Data shows one man who won more than 150 times since the beginning of 2014. His winnings earned him more than $154,000.

Another man won more than $583,000 from 142 games since the beginning of 2014. The majority of his winning tickets were purchased at the same gas station.

Deputy Director of Ohio Lottery Security Jack O’Donnell told WEWS-TV that there are a lot of possible explanations.

“If you’re asking me about the odds of that occurring, it would probably be considered an outlier,” he said.

He added that he wasn’t necessarily suspicious.

“There are several different ways that can occur,” he said.

O’Donnell said state lottery investigators look into individual players and retailers if they suspect suspicious activity. They also follow-up on complaints.

“I don’t think it’s surprising. In fact, to some extent, I would say you’re almost guaranteed of having seven winners that have won at least 100 times,” Dr. Bill Notz, a statistician at Ohio State University, told WEWS-TV.

The winners did not want to be interviewed or could not be reached.

Channel 2’s sister station WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh contributed to this report.
