The crash happened around 10 p.m. on Moreland Avenue on Monday.

A trooper attempted to pull over the driver in a traffic stop, but the motorcyclist took off, the GSP said. A bystander said he was getting ice cream with friends when he heard the commotion.

"It was just driving real fast," Kahlil Daniel told Channel 2's Erica Byfield.

The trooper then chased the driver down Moreland Avenue, but the driver crashed into a car near an Auto Zone store. Authorities said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Byfield was at the scene as the GSP investigated the crash. The Auto Zone was roped off, and motorcycle parts were sprawled out across the area.

A GSP representative said the occupants of the car that was crashed into were OK but shaken up.
