Wounded Gainesville soldier honored at Memorial Day parade

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — As the nation reflects on service members who died serving our country, a special honor was held Monday morning for a Georgia Marine who had a brush with death in Afghanistan.

Nineteen-year-old Sean Adams said he has always wanted to be a Marine. Adams had only been in Afghanistan for a month when he stepped on an improvised explosive device.

"In that split second, I knew me or my buddy, Ron, was going to die. I'm going to do my best to protect this squad I've been protecting for the past month," Adams said.

Doctors had to amputate both of Adams' legs. After a month of therapy, Adams returned home to Georgia on Friday.

Adams rode in Gainesville's Memorial Day parade Monday morning. The parade began at a church on Green Street in Flowery Branch at 10 a.m.
