Woman shot in head in NW Atlanta

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating what led to a woman being shot in the head Thursday night.

Investigators said the woman was riding in a truck along Joseph E. Boone Boulevard near Chappell Road when a fight erupted between the people in the truck and a man walking along the street.

Police said the man opened fire on the truck, hitting the woman in the head with a bullet.

The driver of the truck took off from the scene to get away, eventually stopping along Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway to call for help.

The woman was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where she was in stable condition at last check.

Police told Channel 2's Eric Philips they do not know the relationship between the shooter and the people in the truck.

Investigators said the woman was the only person hurt in the incident. They continue to look for the assailant in this shooting.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
