Woman raffles off Falcons tickets for charity

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A local woman who lost her son to suicide is donating her NFC championship Falcons tickets to raise money for a scholarship in his name.

It costs $40 for a raffle ticket to win two tickets on the 50-yard line.

"The seats are excellent. You can't get better," said Ann Bishop.

Bishop and her family have been Falcons season ticket holders since the Falcons joined the NFL in 1965. Giving up two of her NFC championship game tickets is not easy, but she sees it as a tremendous opportunity.

"I need to finish raising the rest of the $100,000 to fund a scholarship in my son's memory," Bishop told Channel 2's Craig Lucie.

Her son, Miller Conn, went to the University of Georgia.

"When Sept. 11 happened, he dropped out of college and joined the Army," Bishop said.

After serving, Conn went back to school, married and had two children. He later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"My son Miller Conn died four years, two months and two days ago, and you shouldn't outlive your children, but I want something good to come out of the horror," Bishop explained.

In lieu of flowers at the time, Bishop asked for donations for Kids Chance of Georgia. It's a charity she's been a part of for 25 years.

"Our mission is to provide education funding to children of work-injured people in Georgia. So, the predicating injury is catastrophic or fatal," Executive Director Forrest Hale said.

Bishop added, "The face value is $480. So, for two with $40, it's probably worth a shot, and it's tax deductible, because it's really a donation to Kids Chance."
