Scorched pavement is all that's left from the homicide Friday night.

"It's horrible it did happen. I feel horrible for the person in the car, and I hope they catch whoever did this," a neighbor who did not want to be identified told Channel 2's Lauren Davis

The neighbor said he was inside his home Friday around midnight when he heard strange noises.

"Initially, it was a horn, a short blast and then a second horn. At first, I thought it was the TV," he said.

Then, after the long horn sounded, he heard an explosion.

"Then I looked out, and that's when I saw the blaze from around the corner," he said.

A white 2005 Dodge Caravan was on fire. That's when the neighbor called 911.

Police found the body in the passenger seat. They later determined the victim was a female who had been shot in the head.

Now, neighbors are trying to come to terms with what happened.

"Whoever did this, I hope they find them and bring them to justice because whoever did this, it's wrong, just absolutely wrong," the neighbor who called 911 said.

Police haven't identified the victim or released her age yet, but they did say there was a Georgia college sticker on the back of the van.
