Police release sketch of suspect connected to robbery, shooting outside country club

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — The Atlanta Police Department has released a sketch of the suspect in the robbery and shooting outside a country club in Brookhaven Saturday night.

The sketch comes hours after police released surveillance video of a person of interest in a carjacking that may have been related to the shooting. The vehicle involved in the carjacking was later used during the robbery and shooting, police said.

The shooting happened on July 9 when, police said, Christian Broder, his brother and two other guests were waiting for an Uber at the corner of West Brookhaven Drive and Capital City Lane. The group was attending a wedding reception at Capital City Club.

While they were waiting, Broder's brother, Nicholas, said a car pulled up and a young man got out of a car and robbed them. The man then shot Christian Broder in the stomach.

“It was terrifying. I think I’m still shocked about the entire situation,” Nicholas Broder said. ‘It’s one of the toughest things I’ve ever seen.”

Christian Broder is a 34-year-old father of a 9-month-old who manages a popular Washington, D.C. restaurant. He is in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Piedmont Hospital.

DO YOU RECOGNIZE THIS MAN? Police say this man robbed 4 guests leaving a wedding reception and then shot 1 of them.

Police said the man now wanted was a passenger in a stolen car and neither the victims nor witnesses got a description of the driver.

"We heard the gunshot off to our left, and we looked over and it was kind of like this quick pause and people started screaming, 'Call 911. Someone has been shot,'" said witness Jaime Griffon. "Apparently, they had all been robbed, so they had their wallets and cellphones taken, so when I drove up just as he was being shot, you know, having a cellphone was critical for that moment."

TRENDING STORIES:

The carjacking happened the previous evening in Forest Park, police said. Police say the 2014 white Dodge Charger that was stolen was captured on surveillance video around the time of the shooting in Brookhaven.

Investigators are not sure whether the same man was involved in both incidents.

Crime Stoppers has increased the reward in in this case to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the man.

"It's certainly very brazen and (he's) someone we want to get off the streets," said Sgt. John Chafee, with the Atlanta Police Department.

If you have any information whether you saw something that night or you saw something in Forest Park where the carjacking occurred, or if you recognize the suspect in the sketch, you are asked to call Atlanta police.
