Van for child with spina bifida stolen, found

WOODSTOCK, Ga. — A customized van for a disabled child was reported stolen Monday morning, but it was recovered later in the day.

The sheriff's office said someone reported a stolen 2009 red Toyota Sienna that is customized with a wheelchair ramp for a 12-year-old with spina bifida.

Deputies said the van had the child's leg braces, a laptop computer and cash inside.

The rear window of the van says "Handicap Driver Services" and the sides of the van say "Braun Ramp Van."

That afternoon, deputies said the owner spotted the van parked at the Metro Lodge Hotel on Highway 5. The leg braces and laptop were found inside, but the cash was not.

The theft remains under investigation.
