UGA running back arrested on felony weapons charges

ATHENS, Ga. — A sophomore running back for the University of Georgia's football team was arrested Friday morning on two felony weapons charges.

Isaiah Crowell, 19, was booked into the Athens-Clarke County Jail at 3:37 a.m. on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a weapon in a school zone and an altered ID mark. No other information was immediately available.

Early Friday evening, UGA Athletics announced Crowell had been dismissed from the team on their website.

"We have a dedicated and committed group of men who are working hard to prepare for the coming season," said Bulldog head coach Mark Richt. "Our total focus will be directed toward the team and this effort."

Crowell, who is from Columbus, was was the No. 1-rated running back prosect in America when he came to UGA in 2011.

Crowell missed playing time due to two suspensions and injuries last season, but still rushed for 850 yards and five touchdowns.
