3 dead in shooting at Marietta apartment complex

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are investigating a shooting that left three people dead at an apartment complex in Marietta.

Witnesses told police the gunfire erupted during a family gathering at the Ivy Ridge Apartments on Bentley Road around 2:30 p.m.

"I heard a bunch of gunshots and screams, and then a long pause and then one gunshot that vibrated my floor," said resident Phelicia Brown.

Investigators are not labeling the crime a murder-suicide, but they said officers are not looking for anyone in connection with the deaths.

"We have everyone contained, we're talking to a number of witnesses who observed what happened," said Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce.

Police took some of the witnesses, many of them family members, away from the scene to collect official statements. They hope they will be able to provide a motive for the violence.

Residents who know the family involved told Channel 2's Ashley Swann a man and woman who had two children are among the dead.

"Everyone is sad because it's their parents," a resident said.

But even those who don't know them call it a sad turn of events, especially so close to Christmas.

"I don't know what's going on, who got shot, or what happened, but it's sad," Brown said.

Authorities are still investigating the crime scene but Channel 2 Action News will have updates as soon as we receive them.
