Woman killed after tractor trailer overturns on family's car

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — A driver is facing DUI charges after authorities say his tractor-trailer rolled away from him and crashed into a family’s pickup truck, killing a woman.

The crash happened on Joe Frank Harris Parkway, also known as Highway 41, in Emerson around 9 p.m. Thursday.

Emergency crews worked for two hours to reach the family of four trapped inside their truck.

Authorities say two toddlers and their father were taken to area hospitals. The mother was killed in the wreck.

The police chief told Channel 2 Action News the driver of the big rig was outside the truck doing a safety inspection when it started to roll.

"The brakes, the parking brake on the vehicle was either not set or failed causing the vehicle to become unsecured and rolled down the hill, striking the red truck as it was traveling northbound on Highway 41,” said Emerson Police Chief Stan Bradley.

Police arrested the driver, identified as Ivan Delgado, of Rome, New York. Officers said he was drunk and was charged with DUI.

Firefighters said inside the tractor trailer was pesticides and degreasers, turning the accident into a hazmat situation.

Police have identified the victims in the crash. Kyra Carr, 31, was deceased at the scene. Reed Carr, 36, is stable at Kennestone Hosptial. The children, a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old, are both in serious condition, but stable at Scottish Rite.

An update on our tragic news from this morning. Please continue to pray for Kyra's husband Reid, their children, and all...
