ATLANTA — A couple visiting Marietta for a baseball tournament was shot at on their way to a hotel, Atlanta police said.
"Based on their story, the incident appears to be a random act of violence," Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones told Channel 2 Action News.
The pair arrived in Atlanta on a flight from Los Angeles about two hours before the shooting early Friday, Jones said. They were in town for their 17-year-old son's baseball tournament.
The couple was driving northbound in a rented vehicle down Interstate 75 when a man leaned out of the passenger's side of another car and began shooting, Jones said. A woman in the car was shot in the face.
Atlanta police were called to Piedmont Hospital around 2:30 a.m. The victim's condition is unclear.
Police don't believe it was road rage-related, and the couple said they have no reason to believe anyone had previous intentions to harm them.
