Crews work to restore power after winter storm

ATLANTA — Thousands of customers were without power as snow and ice continued to cause problems through metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

Snow began to fall in north Georgia Friday evening and moved into metro Atlanta Friday night. Ice accumulated overnight.

Georgia Power said it restored power to more than 64,000 customers overnight.

High winds and icy conditions led to continued outages throughout the day.

By Saturday evening, Georgia Power had restored power to 98 percent of the impacted customers.

Georgia Power said nearly all customers had power restored by 10 p.m. Saturday.

Georgia EMC said 1,500 customers were without power due to the storm.
