• Police: Thief runs, car falls down ravine

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga.,None - DeKalb County police are looking for a robber who jumped out of a moving car before it fell down a ravine.

Police said a man walking near Redan and South Hairstan roads was robbed around 9 p.m. Sunday. Hours later, the victim spotted the robber’s car at the Elite at the Landing apartment complex on Holcombe Road and called 911.

Police said the thief saw responding officers and sped off. He turned a corner at the complex, but there was nowhere else to go, and he jumped out of his moving car, police said.

“The vehicle continued over the embankment behind me about 30 feet and rested next to the adjacent apartment complex," DeKalb police Lt. Lavigne said.

He said officers used K-9 units to search the area, but the thief remains on the loose.

"If you know the area, there's a lot of ways to go," Lavigne said.

Police have a vague description of the robber. They said the man is about 5 feet 6 inches tall and was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black shoes.
