These were the most popular baby names for girls in Georgia last year

ATLANTA — The annual list of the most popular baby names is now out and there’s a new name at the top of the girls’ list for Georgia.

For the first time since 2014, Olivia took the top spot in the Peach State. Ava dropped to the No. 2 spot after it held the title from 2015 until 2020.

Olivia is also the most popular name nationwide for the third straight year.

The Social Security Administration releases an annual list that tracks baby names given to boys and girls in every state, with names dating to 1880.

The data is based on applications for Social Security cards, according to The Associated Press, and the data has been released every year since 1997.

Here is the top 10 list of baby girl names in Georgia for 2021:

  1. Olivia (521 babies)
  2. Ava (516 babies)
  3. Amelia (446 babies)
  4. Emma (438 babies)
  5. Charlotte (404 babies)
  6. Isabella (327 babies)
  7. Sophia (296 babies)
  8. Harper (290 babies)
  9. Evelyn (283 babies)
  10. Mia (270 babies)
