Teen accused of driving lawnmower drunk into home

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga — A teen is accused of driving a lawn mower into the side of a neighbor’s home while drunk.

A Newton County resident reported Friday that two juveniles, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, were riding a lawn mower in an irregular matter.

One of the juveniles sat on the hood of the mower while the other was steering, police said. The juveniles hit a brush pile, jumped a fence and crashed into a pile of bricks, according to officials.

Deputy James Stevens responded to the scene and found the juveniles at a home on Fiddle Creek Drive.

“I could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from one of the juveniles. The juvenile was slurring his speech and swaying back and forth,” Stevens said.

Stevens said that 17-year-old Kenneth Corey Craig Starnes, repeatedly used obscene and vulgar language.

“I had advised the juvenile multiple times not to use profanity in the public’s hearing due to several small children playing across the street,” Stevens said, and added that Starnes began fighting as he attempted to place him under arrest.

Starnes was later charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and underage consumption of alcohol.
