Suspect in custody after Loganville standoff

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — At least eight homes were evacuated Wednesday morning due to a SWAT standoff that ended with one person in custody.

Gwinnett sheriff's deputies went to serve an eviction notice at the home on Mountain Park Run around 10 a.m.

Deputies tried to enter the home and that's when a man later identified as Kelvin Gourick, 54, appeared at the window and asked why they were there.

Deputies identified themselves and explained why they had arrived, but Gourick refused to exit or allow deputies to enter the home.

Deputies say that's when they heard gunshots fired from inside the home. The response prompted SWAT officers to come by and evacuate homes nearby.

Channel 2's Tony Thomas and a photographer shot video at the scene, where multiple public safety vehicles were seen outside the residence.

Officials said the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody shortly before noon. No injuries were reported.

Gourick is being held without bond on charges of aggravated assault and terroristic threats and acts.
