Man in Woodstock standoff found dead inside home

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Cherokee County authorities say a man they were trying to remove from a home during a SWAT standoff took his own life.

The unidentified man was found inside his home on Ironhill Trace in Woodstock on Sunday afternoon.

Channel 2's Shae Rozzi was the only reporter at the scene, where more than 20 law enforcement vehicles were parked near the home. Neighbors noticed a police presence building at about 4:30 p.m.

Officials said the man's wife went to pick up her belongings from the home at about 2:15 p.m. She alerted 911 around that time that her husband was holding a gun to his head. Authorities went to the home, sent their robot in about three hours later, and found the man dead.

Police said there were no other injuries.
