Student critical after passing out at football practice

MONROE, Ga. — A Walton County student remains in critical condition a day after he collapsed during football practice and had to be life-flighted to a metro Atlanta hospital.

The Monroe Fire Department said Jon Ross Snell told a coach he wasn't feeling well during football practice at George Walton Academy Monday and collapsed moments later.  Once emergency crews arrived, they said they found him unconscious and unresponsive and airlifted the seventh-grader to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Eggleston in Decatur.

Hospital officials said Tuesday that Snell is in critical condition and that his family is with him.

George Walton Academy's headmaster William Nicholoson issued a statement saying, "at this point, the cause of the injury is still unclear.  We ask that you keep this student and his family in your prayers."

Meanwhile, Snell's classmates, friends and family have started social media feeds on Twitter and Instagram at #prayforjonross and #prayingforjonross.  They're posting photos and asking for prayers during this time of need.  Other friends have said they plan to have prayer rally for Snell.
