Police hope video will lead to truck driver who ran over man

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — East Point detectives are trying to figure out who was behind the wheel of a truck that ran over a man and killed him.

Police I.D. technicians have determined the markings on the truck are for Xfinity and Comcast.

They say whoever was driving it came up on the side walk near Camp Creek Parkway, where 60-year-old Dewey Skidmore was sitting, and slowly ran over the grandfather.

“If you look at the video, you can see that the driver is driving at a slow pace. They begin to speed up as he runs over the victim," police Capt. Cliff Chandler said. %

Detectives say the video shows the driver looking out his window as he crushes Skidmore.

“This man was a grandfather and a father of three boys, who loved him a lot. We want to see justice done,” Skidmore’s son told Channel 2's Liz Artz in July.

Artz contacted Comcast Thursday, and a company spokesman released the following statement:

"We extend our deepest sympathies to the victim's family. We are cooperating with the police in their investigation of this incident, which we believe involved one of our contractors."

Investigators are hoping someone recognizes the truck and knows who was behind the wheel.

“Someone somewhere knows something about this vehicle. (We are) hoping someone will come forward to give closure to Skidmore's family," Chandler said.

At this point, police just want to talk to the driver, but it is a murder investigation and they are not sure if it was accidental.

“Perhaps they’re afraid to come forward speak to us. We want to talk to him or her to get their side of the story," Chandler said.

Police are asking anyone who may know who owns the cable truck, or who may know something about this crime, to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
