Homeowner kills alleged intruder in South Fulton County

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police are searching for two people in connection with home invasion in which a third intruder was shot and killed by a tenant of the home.

The shooting was reported around 2 a.m. Friday at a home in the 2000 block of Rochelle Way in College Park.

"I just got up and heard a loud noise and I went to my window and saw a young man in our yard," said homeowner Tanisha Benjamin. %

Police say that man was shot and killed by Benjamin’s downstairs tenant during a home invasion.

"There were three people trying to break in, three males," Lt. Scott McBride of the Fulton County Police Department told Channel 2’s Audrey Washington.

Fulton County police say the two other men took off down Rochelle Way. It's unclear why the intruders targeted the apartment.

Friday, Washington asked police if the man who shot and killed the intruder will be charged.

"We have to look at all the physical evidence, take everyone's statements and put all the pieces of the puzzle together and at that point we'll have a clear understanding of what happened and at that point we'll make a decision on the charges," McBride said.

Washington tried to speak with the people who live in the apartment, but they refused to talk. One man covered his head as he got into a red sedan.

Washington spoke with Benjamin as she and her family went to stay with relatives. Though it was scary, she says if in the same situation as her tenant, she would’ve done the same thing.

"Police are investigating this as a home invasion. Do you think that renter was protecting himself?" Washington asked Benjamin.

"Yes, of course," Benjamin said.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner identified the alleged intruder as Marquis Jackson from Columbus.
