Eyesore house that plagued City of South Fulton for years finally torn down

SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — Neighbors in the city of South Fulton have been trying to get a condemned property demolished for years, and they have finally reached their goal.

An abandoned home on Baxley Way has been an eyesore and a nuisance to others in the area for years, especially after it caught fire several months ago.

Code Enforcement Director Brian Norris finally got through the court process and had the building knocked down.

“It was constantly a source of illegal dumping,” he explained. “It attracts rodents, it attracts dogs, it attracts all types of things we don’t want in the city.”

Morris told Channel 2′s Tyisha Fernandes he has been trying to demolish the home since South Fulton became its own city five years ago.

He gained an ally in Councilwoman Natasha Williams when she was recently elected and placed blighted homes near the top of her to-do list because of concerns from neighbors.

“There’s a psychological impact and an emotional impact, as well as the economic impact to the city because it does look like nobody cares,” Councilwoman Williams said.

“My understanding, from the neighbors, is that the gentleman who lived here passed and then after that, no one ever came to claim the house or to empty it out or get the car or anything like that,” Williams said of the Baxley Way property.
