Teen killed, another injured in possible home invasion

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A teen was killed and his girlfriend was injured in what police said was a home invasion in the City of South Fulton.

City of South Fulton police said that a 19-year-old man was found dead at a home on Celtic Drive around 5 a.m. Friday.  His 19-year-old girlfriend was found with a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital.

Family members identified the dead victim as DaQuell Worthy, a graduate of Westlake High School.

Channel 2's Aaron Diamant spoke with Worthy's uncle, who was in the home at the time he was killed and heard the gunshot.

Howard Lawson said his family is still trying to process the crime that claimed the life of his nephew.

Lawson said he was in bed when he heard gunfire.

"All I heard was a gunshot. That's all I heard," Lawson said.

Lawson went to check on Worthy and his girlfriend, who also lived at the home. Worthy was dead and his girlfriend had been shot in the buttocks.

"He was laying down in the hallway," Lawson said. "She was hollering. She said 'somebody done killed him.' So I didn't know what to do. I called his parents. I called his mama."

Police said someone entered the home through the garage door. No arrests have been made and no suspects are in custody.

Police say there was no sign of forced entry and they are not sure how many people they are looking for. They said they weren't sure if Worthy was targeted of if it was a random crime.

Diamant spoke to Officer Partrena Baker, with the South Fulton Police Department, about the search for the suspects.

"We're very concerned," Baker said. "We're doing the best that we can to bring the subject or subjects into custody."

Baker advised neighbors to secure their homes and to come forward if they see anything suspicious.

Worthy graduated from Westlake High School in 2017. His uncle said he was a nice kid.

Police have not released the name of his girlfriend but said she was alert and talking on her way to the hospital.
