Police investigating man's body found inside burning car as possible homicide

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police say a man's body was found in a burning car in South Fulton County early Thursday morning.

Officers were called out to Pleasant Hill Road at the intersection of Old National Highway around 3:30 a.m..

Channel 2's Kristen Holloway was at the scene on Channel 2 Action News This Morning as officers crowded around a burned-out red car before it was removed with the body still inside.

Police said they are investigating the man's death as a homicide. They are working to find out how he ended up in the car.

Holloway learned that the body was so badly burned officials are hoping to identify it through dental records.

Holloway talked to neighbors, who said they are scared of what they say is escalating crime in the area.

"It's becoming an unsafe environment for our kids right now, it really is," one woman said. "It scared me, yes, to be so close. It scared the crap out of me."

The woman said the fire was the final straw for her and her family.

"People are just running around here, killing people," she said. "This is a dangerous place, but now this is exactly why I'm leaving this dangerous place. Because this is too close."
