Strong storms heading our way for early Thursday morning

Here's Severe Weather Team 2's Brad Nitz with a look at your Thursday morning forecast.

ATLANTA — Strong storms are headed toward the state and are expected to impact north Georgia in the pre-dawn hours of Thursday.

Severe Weather Team 2 is tracking the storms that are expected to move into northwest corner of the state around 3 a.m. The storms will move into the Atlanta metro around 5 a.m. and then through the south metro by about 7 a.m. Thursday.

Here is what you need to know:

  • There is a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk for north Georgia for Thursday morning.
  • The main risks will be heavy rain, strong 60+ mph wind gusts, and hail. A brief spin-up tornado cannot be ruled out.
  • Another round of severe weather could move through this weekend.
