Boyfriend arrested hours after body of missing college student found

FORT VALLEY, Ga. — The body of a missing Georgia college student was found Tuesday in Crawford County, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation told WGXA.

23-year-old Anitra Gunn vanished Friday in a neighborhood north of the city of Fort Valley.

On Monday, the Georgia State Patrol aviation unit flew over several areas near Fort Valley State University, scanning the ground for signs of Gunn.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that her body had been located in Crawford County and that an arrest was made.

Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese said Gunn’s boyfriend, DeMarcus Little, was a person of interest in the case, during a news conference Tuesday evening.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the Fort Valley Police Department posted on Facebook that police had arrested Little, 23, saying he was tied to the case.

Little is charged with criminal damage to property.

“These offenses occurred ... inside the city limits of Fort Valley and Anitra Gunn was the victim. In this incident, the windows were smashed at her apartment and tires were slashed on her vehicle. More charges may be forthcoming. The Police Department was assisted by the Peach County Sheriff’s Department and the GBI,” the post said.

Deese said that the case is not currently being investigated as a homicide.

Christopher Gunn reported his daughter missing the day after Valentine’s Day when he couldn't get in touch with her.

“Yeah, it’s a crushing feeling to not know, especially, like I said, when you are used to at least having sort of contact with her,” Christopher Gunn said Monday.

Anitra Gunn graduated from Westlake High School in South Fulton County.

Officers found her damaged car near where she lived. Her wallet was inside the car.

India King believes she is one of the last people to see Anitra Gunn alive. She drove her friend to a party Thursday night but left early, leaving Gunn to get a ride home with someone else, King told AJC.com.

“She has never went days without calling or texting either me, her father or other friends and family members,” King said in a message to the AJC.
