Weekend of storms leaves damage across metro

A weekend of heavy storms leveled trees up and down East Drive in Buckhead. It's some of the worst storm damage we've seen all weekend.

Heavy rain pounded midtown Atlanta on Sunday afternoon. The rain was so heavy, we could barely see the skyline on our Atlanta tower cam.

A number of metro Atlanta counties were under severe thunderstorm warnings. Video taken from Channel 2 Action News viewers shows just how strong this rainfall was.

Severe Weather Team 2 is tracking the potential for even more storms Monday on Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

Thousands of Georgia Power customers were without power because of fallen trees. It does not appear anyone was seriously hurt.

“And all the sudden, the trees just started going over, like, over," said resident Tammy McDonald. "It was very scary."

Channel 2's Audrey Washington traveled to Conyers where homeowner Cassandra Jackson showed us how the storm sent part of a tree through her neighbor's ceiling.

“We came to the front door and heard this loud noise," Washington said. “The tree, the branch was through her son’s bedroom.”

Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Katie Walls said with an approaching cold front, the rain chances will increase to 40% for Monday. There will be a 30% chance Tuesday.
