REMINDER: Georgia license, car registration services closing this week for upgrades

ATLANTA — If you planned to renew your license or car registration in January, state departments want to remind you about scheduled closings.

The Georgia Department of Driver Services will close Jan. 14 until Jan. 18 for system upgrades. The Georgia Department of Revenue will close Jan. 13 until Jan. 18 for the same upgrades.

Online services, kiosks and the DDS 2 Go app will be down along with vehicle registration and title services.

DDS also said that after Monday customers who have online service and app accounts will have to recreate them.

Officials said you don’t have to wait to renew your license or ID card. You can renew it 150 days before the expiration date.

DDS and the DOR have been planning the transition to the new system since 2017. More information can be found on the state website here.
