ATLANTA - A Dawson County assistant district attorney who left his job amid a Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe has been found dead in Florida.

A GBI spokesman confirms the investigation into John Wilbanks Jr. is now closed, because of his death.

Wilbanks was in charge of the Dawson County office of the district attorney until Wednesday.

The GBI says a superior court judge requested the investigation earlier this week, but agents would not disclose further details.

Police in Fernandina Beach, Fla., are handling the death investigation.
