Power worker killed by tree on GA 400

ATLANTA — A power worker has been killed by a tree in Lumpkin County.

Authorities tell Channel 2 Action News the tree fell on a Sawnee EMC employee along Georgia 400 on the south side of the county.

The crew was doing utility work near Welchel Road when the tree hit and killed the worker. The worker has not been identified.

Police closed Georgia 400 to traffic for a short time while they investigated, but the highway has since reopened.
