• Police: Thieves crash into officer, cruiser

ATLANTA - An officer is in the hospital after thieves hit him with a car, police say.

After receiving several complaints from truckers about thefts, DeKalb County police staked out the truck stop on International Park Drive, near Bouldercrest Road early Monday morning.

Officers noticed a couple of thieves trying to pry open the doors of a Tyson’s trailer and approached the men. As the thieves try to get away, they struck an officer with a dark-colored Chrysler minivan, police said.

“When they attempted to interrupt the theft in progress, one of the suspect vehicles struck one of our officers and our police units, and basically right now, the vehicle is at large,” Lt. Dane Cunningham of the DeKalb County Police Department said.

Police are looking for the minivan, which may have damage, and a white pickup truck.

The officer is recovering at DeKalb Medical Center with a bruised hip.
