Police fatally shoot robber after carjacking, chase, standoff

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga.,None — Clayton County authorities shot and killed a man after he led investigators on a chase that stemmed from a carjacking and held himself up inside a home for a couple of hours.

Investigators have not identified the man at this point.

Police said the man robbed a Jamaican restaurant in the area of Flint River Drive.

A witness told Channel 2's Eric Philips the man held a gun their heads, demanded money, forced several women into a back room and then fled.

Police said he fled into the Riverwood town home community where police located him.

Investigators said the man then starting shooting at them and ran.

Police said the robber then carjacked a woman who had her baby in the car and drove off.

Officers said the man eventually crashed the car into a home on Dorsey Road.

Investigators said the man then fled to a home a few houses down, which police said belonged to the man's sister. He remained held up there for a couple of hours.

Police surrounded the home and brought in the SWAT team, trying to get the man to come out.

The man eventually began shooting at police, and they fired back, killing the man.

Police had to evacuate neighbors in the area.

The GBI continues to investigate the incident.
